Following the receipt of a payment institution license by the Financial Market Authority Liechtenstein, fintech startup Amis has set foot in Europe with offices and local teams in Prague, Czech Republic and Vienna, Austria. This move coincides with the closing of its CHF 3 million round led by Spicehaus Partners.

In addition to traditional payment methods, AMNIS Treasury Services AG built the amnis WebApp to enable SMEs make cross-border, real-time payments around the clock to suppliers within a client’s own PEER network. Soon, amnis customers will also be able to receive foreign currencies very easily via an IBAN account. The company already serves more than 2’000 companies in Switzerland and is on a strong growth trajectory.

Its subsidiary, Amnis Europe AG, became the first payment institution registered in Liechtenstein. The possibility of transferring its newly obtained license to other EEA countries within the framework of the free movement of services (EU passport) allows amnis to offer its services beyond Switzerland. This opens up enormous potential for amnis in a market of 23 million companies.

As part of the company’s first phase of expansion in Central and Eastern Europe, business activities have already been rolled out in Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic, and Italy. To position itself optimally in the new markets and guarantee the best possible customer support, amnis has opened two offices in Vienna and Prague.

Besides infrastructure, the startup has expanded its personnel with Gerhard Scharinger, a currency expert who has already made a significant contribution to market development for Western Union Business Solution in Central and Eastern Europe. “I am pleased to be able to drive forward the expansion in Europe with a great team. SMEs are the heart of our economy and together with amnis, new opportunities and markets are opening up for SMEs”, says Gerhard Scharinger, Head Markets.

First investment round closed
In addition to the expansion, amnis announced the completion of its first financing round led by Spicehaus Swiss Venture Fund. The round resulted in CHF 3 million. The investment will accelerate its growth activities in the new markets.
