Swissnex has supported 150 startups in 2015

In 2015, the swissnex network, together with the Science and Technology Counselors, continued to support the internationalization of its partner institutions in the fields of education, research and innovation (ERI) and to strengthen Switzerland’s image abroad. Together with over 100 Swiss partner institutions, the swissnex teams organized more than 350 events, supported over 150 startups, amongst other activities. The swissnex annual report 2015 presents swissnex activities and achievements of 2015.

"Connecting the dots, creating impact" is the theme of this year’s Annual Report of the swissnex network published on the website. The report presents a glimpse of the swissnex activities accomplished by swissnex in 2015. Among other achievements, the swissnex teams in collaboration with Swiss partner institutions, organized more than 350 events, supported over 150 start-ups and have reached a total of over 20’000 Facebook friends over that time period. Total funding of the network in 2015 amounted to CHF 8.87 Mio., of which CHF 2.93 Mio was covered by partner contributions. The swissnex generated a total project volume of CHF 3.66 Mio., of which roughly three-quarters were funded by their project partners.

Some of the highlights in the report include; the CTI Market Entry Camp launch in India, a program that assisted over 50 Swiss startups to explore the Indian market, with Johann N. Schneider-Ammann, federal councillor of Switzerland. Also swissnex Brazil’s focus on sustainability in 2015 touched on the Swiss startup scene, culminating in a successful landing case in Brazil for the Urban Farmers, a Swiss startup that designs and operates Aquaponic rooftop farms. Moreover, Birdly, a virtually flying interactive flight simulator developed at Zurich University, demonstrated Switzerland’s virtual reality strengths in Boston. Thanks to swissnex, Swiss companies received insights into the latest Trends in the FinTech-industry in the Bay Area of San Francisco and in the Media capital of New York City.  

The swissnex network, which is run by the State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation (SERI) in close partnership with the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA), currently comprises five offices in Boston, San Francisco, Shanghai, Bangalore and Rio de Janeiro, as well as three satellites in New York, São Paolo and Guangzhou. Together with the 20 Science and Technology Counsellors, they form the Confederation’s foreign network for education, research and innovation. Their mission is to support the internationalization of Swiss ERI players through networking and advisory services, raise the profile of the Swiss ERI sector abroad and to promote knowledge transfer with leading knowledge centers throughout the world.
