Arktis Radiation Detectors, a Zurich-based company providing next generation radiation detection systems, has secured new investments to expand the sales force, increase global market coverage and prepare production for volume manufacturing.

Arktis develops and manufactures next generation systems that detect and identify radioactive and nuclear materials, contaminated cargo and other illicit materials at ports, airports and border crossings. In collaboration with governments and agencies across the globe, Arktis developed this proprietary advanced detection technology to create a range of products that enhance security and facilitate operations for customers and governments across the world.

The company successfully closed financing round B that was led by b-to-v Partners and existing investors. Bright Technologies Fund also participated in the round under the advice of OneLife. OneLife is a strategic consulting company providing services to financial institutions, pharmaceutical companies and family offices with respect to their ventures in Life Science and High-Technology.

With the newly secured funds, Arktis aims at realising its expansion goals to support the increasing demand for its products. The company has already begun to ramp up production, leveraging a series of strategic partnerships, and has recently announced the opening of Arktis Detection Systems Inc, a US subsidiary, based in Arlington, Virginia.

Helmut Schmidt, Lead Investor for b-to-v said: “We identified Artkis as having a leading technology with the potential to assist in addressing significant public and private safety needs. We are excited to be taking part in the company’s expansion because we regard both the present product offering and the vision to provide comprehensive networked systems as essential in light of mounting homeland security issues around the world.”

Rico Chandra, CEO of Arktis Radiation Detectors commented: “This new investment is tremendous news and comes at a very exciting time for our company. Our systems are already making a major contribution to security across the globe and we continue to see a growth in demand. We will now be able to focus on bringing our portfolio of products to a whole new range of customers."

Significant growth for Arktis
Arktis has witnessed a significant growth in demand for its next generation radiation detection systems, all of which feature its own proprietary technology developed by the scientists and engineers at the company’s headquarters in Zurich. Arktis has won competitive contracts with the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) in the US, supporting its revolutionary SIGMA program, as well as with the UK-based Atomic Weapons Establishment (AWE). In addition, it has won a contract with a major European port and is working with the University of Florida, the Korean Institute for Nuclear Non-proliferation and Control (KINAC) and Korean universities to improve the safe storage of spent nuclear fuels.
