Cebit: Startups mit Angela Merkel

The founding members behind DigitalZurich2025 promised to launch five main projects in 2016. Today, a year after the start, a short report about the five main initiatives has been published. In addition the organisation announced the World Economic Forum as a new partner. And: Sunnie Groeneveld will hand over all operations upon successful completion of her mandate to Stephan Kuester.

The DigitalZurich2025 association aims to strengthen the Greater Zurich Area’s position as a digital hub and to project those benefits across the whole of Switzerland. Five specific measures have been defined to position the Greater Zurich Area as an attractive location for digital startups, corporations and talents and to assist companies throughout Switzerland in meeting digital challenges. Today the organisation presented the Impact of DigitalZurich2025 with regard to the five defined measures:

Kickstart Accelerator:

  • received 900+ applications from 40+ countries
  • 80% of the teams are international
  • 20+ corporate partners – some even competitors – are working together

Investor Summit

  • 1.7 M investment raised
  • 110 international investors & C-level executives met 7 top Swiss startups
  • One startup visited and pitched to Mr. Tata in India

WORLDWEBFORUM

  • Established a strong, strategic partnership for 2017
  • 2 seats in the board of WORLDWEBFORUM AG
  • Representation of DigitalZurich2025 with Ruedi Noser on the main stage among Silicon Valley speakers in 2016
  • Frontcover feature in digital leadership booklet in Handelszeitung in 2015

CeBIT

  • Brought 8 Swiss hightech startups to CeBIT
  • 2 startups pitched to Angela Merkel herself
  • Organized 50+ talks and panels on digital transformation in Swiss Arena

Education Digital

  • Launch on 16.9.2016

 

WEF as a new partner
In addition DigitalZurich2025 announced a new partner. The World Economic Forum will join DigitalZurich2025 as a member organization and Senior Forum representatives Philipp Rösler and Martina Larkin will take positions in the DigitalZurich2025 steering and executive committees.

The collaboration between the World Economic Forum and DigitalZurich2025 will seek to drive positive change in a number of areas, importantly in improved collaboration between the European digital hubs and in fostering a broader dialogue between business, government and the public.

Sunnie Groeneveld will leave the association
Cross-industrial collaboration has also been at the heart of DigitalZurich2025 since its inception in 2015 when DigitalZurich2025’s twenty founding members gave Sunnie Groeneveld a yearlong mandate to build up the association’s office, deliver its five main initiatives and serve as the inaugural managing director of DigitalZurich2025. Groeneveld will hand over all operations upon successful completion of the mandate at the end of September 2016 and will focus on her company, Inspire 925.

Going forward, DigitalZurich2025 will be led by Stephan Kuester, who joined the organization in April 2016. Kuester has been working in international roles in London since 2005 and is seeking to leverage his experience and to further grow the team in the coming months, working in close collaboration with the executive committee of DigitalZurich2025.
