After the first regulatory approvals, Bloom Diagnostics has opened its first walk-in Bloom Store at a busy pedestrian zone in Zurich. The medtech startup offers customers the option to test and purchase the Bloom Lab for detecting a range of serious conditions. The initial focus is on women's health.

Bloom Diagnostics is a medtech company that has developed a smart diagnostic system for a wide range of medical fields, tests range from ferritin levels in the blood to assess anaemia and iron deficiency to TSH (Thyroid Stimulating Hormone) or AMH (Anti-Müllerian Hormone) levels and many more in the future. According to the WHO, anaemia affects around 30 percent of non-pregnant women worldwide, with approximately half of these cases estimated to be caused by a lack of iron. The Bloom System currently offers a finger prick ferritin home test kit, which provides a quick on-the-spot result in ten minutes and delivers personal insights on ferritin levels directly on users’ smartphones.

With the opening of its first-ever flagship store at Fortunagasse 11, in Zurich Bloom brings its certified medical device directly to end-customers seeking smart-testing solutions for at-home, or self-testing. “In case of suspected iron deficiency or iron overload users are recommended to consult with their medical practitioner, apart from other recommendations in the personalized test report” explains Angelica Co-founder and Chairperson Angelica Kohlmann. “Customers will cover the costs of the device privately,” she adds.

The Bloom System also has a number of additional testing models in the pipeline, including AMH (Anti-Müllerian Hormone) which estimates women’s individual ovarian reserve as an ancillary screen of fertility, TSH (Thyroid Stimulating Hormone) which reflects the thyroid status in the blood and screens for primary hypothyroidism.

“Bloom Diagnostics has been developing products to enable patients to take control of their healthcare with at-home self-testing kits and relieving the pressure on healthcare systems since 2018. After the first regulatory approvals, we are delighted to open our first walk-in Bloom Store. Our mission is to democratize access to high-quality healthcare and focus on individual patients and their healthcare journey, and our new store brings us one step closer to achieving this goal. Furthermore, the COVID-19 pandemic has demonstrated that healthcare systems are under extreme pressure and the Bloom System offers the opportunity to relieve some of that strain by allowing patients to self-test at home and in pharmacies,” said Kohlmann.
