Ludicious announces nominees and an extra conference day

Ludicious - Zürich Game Festival has selected eighteen international nominees for the 2017 Ludicious Competitions. In addition the festival announced an additional conference day focusing on Serious & Applied Games and New Game Technology.

Developers from all over the world entered 303 games for the International Competition and the Student Competition of Ludicious. The number of entries increased by over 30% compared to the last edition. Six nominees are from France, four from Germany, and two each from Switzerland and the United Kingdom. Romania, Spain, Sweden and the US are represented with one game each. The winners will be announced on January 27, 2017 at the Ludicious & SGDA Awards Night, where the SGDA (Swiss Game Developers Association) will also announce the winners of its competitions. All nominees will be exhibited throughout the festival.
 
The nominees for the International Competition are:

  • Lance A Lot by Rocket Hammer (Sweden)

  • Reigns by Nerial (United Kingdom)

  • SwapTales: Leon! by Witty Wings (France)

  • Twisted Lines by Megagon Industries (Germany)

 
The nominees for the Student Competition are:

  • Castle Hustle by Team Castle Hustle (ZHdK, Switzerland)

  • 3 Nights in Chicago by the Clean Sneak Rascals (NYU Game Center, USA)

  • Interrogation by Critique Gaming (Romania)

  • Lily - Colors of Santa Luz by students from ISART DIGITAL (France)

  • Nocturnal Hunt by Wolf Pack (Games Academy Berlin, Germany)

  • ShadoWalker by students from ISART DIGITAL (France)

  • ViSP - Virtual Space Port by Ngoc Hoang Tran, Sandro Heuberger, Timo Falcke (Hochschule für Technik und Wirtschaft Berlin, Germany)

 

Additional conference day
Ludicious is growing and adding an extra conference day, featuring two conferences organized in partnership with internationally acclaimed Swiss Universities. The Subject Area in Game Design of the ZHdK is curating a conference on Serious & Applied Games. Called «Interactive Experiences: Crossing Boundaries for Serious Reasons», this conference aims to intersect scientific, technological, design-specific, and narrative strategies, which have been described to be the innovation drivers in the field of Serious & Applied Games. A detailed program will follow shortly.
 
Curated by the ETH Game Technology Center (GTC), a new conference on cutting edge game technologies will also be part of the festival. In the «Game Technology: Inspiring the Future» conference, researchers from different fields will present their work and inspire us with their visions for the future. Subjects addressed are Augmented and Virtual Reality, physics simulation, artificial intelligence and machine learning. This conference will feature talks by Laurent Bugnion, (Senior Director, IdentityMine Europe), Barbara Solenthaler (Senior Research Scientist, Computer Graphics Laboratory ETH Zurich), Steven Poulakos (Associate Research Scientist, Disney Research Zurich) amongst others. Both conferences will take place on Thursday, January 26, 2017.
