Freight Train at Thine-Alpine Corridor

After a successful proof of concept with DB mindbox, the startup program from Deutsche Bahn, DB Netze has announced to further expand the trial of the Augmented Reality technology developed by V-Labs SA in a large-scale field test on the German railways. The technology will be tested at one of the busiest fright routes in Europe.

The project with DB Netze entails the use of Augmented Reality for the installation of ETCS balises along the Rhine-Alpine corridor in Germany, allowing the process to be digitized and optimized. ETCS balises form an integral part of the European Train Control System that facilitates trains to travel across borders in Europe. For example, the ETCS is currently being installed along the Rhine-Alpine Corridor which constitutes one of the busiest freight routes in Europe, connecting railways of key North Sea ports of Belgium and the Netherlands with the Mediterranean port of Genoa, Italy.

Thanks to the use of V-Labs' Augmented Reality solution, Deutsche Bahn might be able to reduce the operational time needed for installing and verifying the installation of ETCS balises.

V-Labs SA is a software and hardware development company based in Geneva, Switzerland, that specializes in highly accurate Augmented Reality for geospatial data. Combined with their feature for step-by-step work instructions, V-Labs has developed a powerful tool for operators in the field. V-Labs works mainly with utilities, contractors, engineers and railway companies to digitize and optimize field operations through the use of hands free, GNSS/RTK-integrated AR-glasses.
