Early stage investing: An asset class in support of the EU strategy for growth and jobs. A recipe for the EU to become one of the world’s most dynamic early-stage investment markets.

he European early-stage investment market has changed significantly over the last 10 years.

When EBAN was created as the European Business Angel Network in 1999, only 50 angel networks operated in Europe, half of which were located in the United Kingdom.

As EBAN closes its 2010 annual research on the market, over 350 organised networks and groups have been identified – and we know these to be only the tip of the iceberg. These groups gather some 20,000 angels and receive 40,000 business plans on average every year.

Moreover, there is now a clear interest from business angels, traditionally local investors, to look at collaboration (including investment) opportunities in different countries throughout Europe and beyond.
