Green Motion’s FLIGHT XT, one of the world’s first electric plane charger, is already in use in two airports in Switzerland. The startup has now partnered with Pipistrel world-renowned small aircraft producer, to develop a universal, future-proof, environmentally friendly, turnkey charging technology for electric aeroplanes.

Since its foundation, Green Motion has been pioneering the design and production of charging systems for electric vehicles. The company operates its own network of charging stations under the “evpass” brand, which has become the most extensive Swiss network and the leading European EV charging hub.

Besides electric cars, the company is also developing breakthrough technologies such as FLIGHT XT, one of the world’s first electric plane charger. The technology is already in use in two airports in Switzerland. Having gained extensive knowledge in the field, Green Motion is now taking further spreading out in the sector.

This will be achieved with the new partner Pipistrel, a Slovenia-based world-leading small aircraft designer and manufacturer, specialised in energy-efficient and affordable high-performance aircraft. With more than 30 years of experience, Pipistrel has produced more than 2200 aircraft to-date holds an EASA Design Organisation Approval and has the capability of bringing a new aircraft-design concept from a basic idea into a certified design, ready for production. By obtaining the first-ever type certificate for an electric aeroplane from EASA, Pipistrel with its Velis Electro has indeed affirmed that the electronic market will grow.

The new partnership allows the two companies to develop SkyCharge stations, as the new charging infrastructure that is in line with approvals of EASA. The electric aeroplane charging solution will bring: Universality by creating a worldwide standard in electric plane charging; Future-Proof characterised by a robust solution powered by the latest technologies; turn-key installation by providing an easy to install and combined with a photovoltaic system and a network of electric planes charging stations using Green Motion’s software expertise to create the first EV charging network for electric planes and UAM.

The two will also set an internationally accepted aerospace standard in e-flight charging since both Green Motion and Pipistrel are members of SAE International’s AE-7D Aircraft Energy Storage and Charging Committee.

Ivo Boscarol, Founder and president of Pipistrel companies says “I am happy that our SkyCharge stations will grow further with its potential into a common new brand SkyCharge by Green Motion and Pipistrel, to offer electric aircraft users a breakthrough, connected and a turn-key service all over the world”.
