Four Swiss startups enter the DayOne Health 4.0 Accelerator

DayOne Health 4.0 Accelerator offers a six-month hybrid program in the Basel area focusing on Artificial Intelligence, data, and digitally enhanced clinical development. 15 startups from a global pool made it to the first phase of the program. Among them, the four Swiss startups Ancora.ai AG, machineMD, Risklick, and a company in stealth.

The DayOne Health 4.0 accelerator supports early to mid-stage digital health startups from diagnostics to patient communication and healthcare professional support. Selected startups receive personalized coaching, access to the DayOne network, innovation spaces, and enhanced visibility—all without equity requirements or fees. The goal of the first phase of the program is to help start-ups understand the pharma environment, plan how they will work with the industry, and come up with their own unique value offering. The second phase focusses on the start-up and making it ready to collaborate with pharma companies. 

For the 2023 edition, the accelerator has welcomed 15 startups Including four Swiss startups that stood out among 109 applications from 35 countries. The cohort are working on diverse solutions ranging from patient recruitment to automated medical examinations and AI-powered diagnostics.

Better patients’ identification, access and enrollment category

Ancora.ai AG (Zurich)
Led by CEO and CTO Danielle Ralic, Ancora.ai addresses the critical issue of patient recruitment failure in clinical trials. Their AI-powered platform efficiently matches patients with suitable clinical studies, aiming to accelerate the development and introduction of new treatments to the market.

Better endpoints (digital, imaging) category

machineMD (Berne)
Founded at the University Hospital of Berne in 2019, machineMD focuses on delivering standardized and automated medical examinations to enhance healthcare quality, especially for underserved patients. Their goal is to extend specialized diagnostic capabilities from tertiary care to primary and secondary care settings.

Risklick (Berne)
Founded 2019, Risklick serves as a data driven tool - ensuring the integration of data science, technology, and human science - to assist clinical trial designers analyze risk of their clinical trial in the early stage. This tool helps them to optimize their protocol in short time and maximize the likelihood of success.

Company in stealth (Zurich

AI in epilepsy and sleep
Jelena Skorucak, a postdoctoral scientist at the Children’s Hospital Zurich is bringing forward automated electroencephalography (EEG) analysis to expedite diagnostics in epilepsy and sleep disorders, traditionally a time-consuming manual process. She has built machine learning algorithms not only save valuable time for clinicians but also offer enhanced diagnostic insights.

These startups are now entering Phase 1 of the program, and in two months, the best 5 out of the entire cohort will be selected to pursue four further months of mentoring, expert support and tailored services to getready for collaborations at the interface with the pharma industry. All teams will travel to Basel next Monday, to kick off the program with a 2-day-bootcamp on Novartis campus, followed by the Intelligent Health AI conference.
