Startups in the Lifesciences sector rely on the ecosystem’s support to access infrastructure, networks and partners. Recently, three incubators and accelerators based in Lausanne, Bern and Basel were able to attract major incumbent corporate companies in the industry to expand their support packages.

The collaboration between Biopôle and Bristol Myers Squibb, a global biopharmaceutical company with a mission to discover, develop and deliver innovative medicines that help patients overcome serious diseases, will facilitate important connections and cooperation between the two organisations. As part of the Biopôle ecosystem, the company will enjoy immediate access to new technologies being developed on the campus. The array of emerging innovations at Biopôle have the potential to provide mutually beneficial opportunities for Biopôle’s corporate partners and community members. Biopôle will provide Bristol Myers Squibb with access to its scientific networks, biological chemistry and drug discovery activities in selected areas of interest. Corporate partners also enjoy the opportunity to participate in Biopôle’s innovation programmes StartLab and Digital Health Hub, get access to infrastructure, incubate new ideas and projects of interest, and host projects directly on campus.

Sitem Startup Club and Johnson & Johnson Innovation
The Sitem Startup Club in Bern welcomed Johnson & Johnson Innovation as a leading partner. Based at the Insel Campus Bern, sitem-insel was founded as the Swiss Institute for Translational and Entrepreneurial Medicine in 2014 to provide the scientific and entrepreneurial ecosystem with a space that thrives in an open innovation culture. It offers the MedTech sector access to consulting, coaching, potential investors and affordable workspace in the newly emerging “Sitem MedTech Hub” at the Insel Campus Bern. A new partnership with Johnson & Johnson Innovation in collaboration with the Johnson & Johnson Family of Companies in Switzerland sees the latter becoming the leading partner as representative of Medical Devices, its related software but also combination products with the device as well as combined products.

Baselaunch attracts China-based CMS
China-based China Medical System (CMS) joined BaseLaunch as a partner, making it the first Chinese company to partner with BaseLaunch and CMS’s first partnership with an accelerator. BaseLaunch is a Swiss-based accelerator and incubator for early-stage startups focusing on therapeutics. The 30-year old CMS, listed on the Hong Kong stock exchange, is well established with a successful track record of developing products and introducing globally innovative products into Greater China and Asia. The new partnership broadens BaseLaunch’s partner diversity with pharma, venture funds, and biotechnology companies including Roche, Roivant and Johnson & Johnson, and it highlights the level of interest from leading and highly innovative corporate partners in the global biopharma community.
