DistalMotion SA is a young and rapidly growing medtech company developing and marketing micro-engineered Swiss precision surgical instruments. The appointment of Harrie van Baars, MD, at the beginning of January 2014 accelerates the development of the company towards a commercial stage.

Dr. van Baars has a longstanding experience with medtech start-up companies in different fields. Most recently he was CEO of NonWoTecc Medical GmbH in Cologne, Germany, developing vascular grafts and covering for cardiovascular stents. The company was successfully acquired in 2013 by Occlutech AG.

“We are excited to attract such an experienced executive, and we are certain his expertise will bring DistalMotion into an accelerated phase of development and commercialisation” says Ricardo Beira, the Founder of Distalmotion and from now on CTO.

“DistalMotion has one of the most exciting and relevant developments in the surgical arena at this moment and among the best people in the field that one can assemble. This offers a unique blend of opportunities, and I am happy to be able to invest and to contribute to the future success of the company”, says Harrie van Baars.

The first commercial product platform, the CODEX, is developed to expand the application field of minimal invasive surgery, and more importantly, to provide the surgeons with specially designed laparoscopic instruments that transmit natural hand-movements with optimal feeling. The launch of this new platform technology has the potential to accelerate a paradigm shift in minimal invasive surgery.

DistalMotion is financially backed by a syndicate of corporate and private investors lead by Zühlke Ventures.
