The Council was set up and will be jointly chaired by President Doris Leuthard and Federal Councillor Johann Schneider-Ammann. Among the members are Jurgi Camblong (Sophia Genetics), Christina Kehl (Swiss Finance Startups), Moritz Lechner (Sensirion) as well as an investor.

The digital transformation process offers great opportunities for our country – as well as fresh challenges. The Federal Council adopted the ‘Digital Switzerland’ strategy in April 2016 and work is in progress in many areas. The strategy places emphasis on the need to foster close dialogue between government actors and players from business, science and society.

As no suitable entity existed at the political level to identify and discuss developments in digital transformation and take up ideas, President Doris Leuthard, the head of the Federal Department of the Environment, Transport, Energy and Communications, and Federal Councillor Johann Schneider-Ammann, the head of the Federal Department of Economic Affairs, Education and Research, took the decision to set up and jointly chair the EAER and DETEC Advisory Council on Digital Transformation.

At the Council’s first meeting the members put forward the key aspects they feel need to be addressed to harness the opportunities of digitalisation. The board then defined the issues to be focused on in the meetings to follow. In particular these include: attracting talent, establishing clusters, infrastructure and data issues, cyber security and regulatory policy.
