Swisscom 2nd call for Innovation: Business Cases Leveraging Telco Data

Swisscom and partners have launched the second call for innovation in search for Big Data Startups and innovators that have successfully developed and tested concrete business cases based on telco data. Registration deadline is 9 April 2017.

In their first call for Innovation, Swisscom and partners received over 55 applications from 18 countries. Out of the 11selected finalists three winners won the prize. Following the success of the first series, Swisscom in collaboration with Proximus and Fastweb, are launching the second series.

In the second call for Innovation, Swisscom and partners are looking for Business Cases that fully comply with European and local data protection laws and that are able to show certain traction – such as paying customers.

Eligible to apply are startups with business cases related to new and adjacent business. Possible business cases that are within our focus area are:

  • Optimization of Public Infrastructure to improve user experience and efficiency and avoid congestions
  • Optimization of Public Transportation based on movement data from mobile phones
  • Business solutions for Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) or E-Commerce services based on anonymized mobility and/or location data
  • Fraud Detection for Financial Services
  • Location benchmarking for Real-estate or Retail Businesses: Store decisions based on pedestrian frequency and behavior of target audience

All applications will be carefully evaluated by experts of all 3 telcos basing on the criteria of: market potential, traction in the respective market(s), privacy compliance (which is a must), business case and solution ready for Proof of Concept (PoC), company and team, and basin on the uniqueness of the product. An online Q&A session with the shortlisted candidates will be organised with the shortlisted candidates after evaluation to determine the finalists.

Selected finalists will start into a joint scoping phase for the proof of concept where the three telcos will be discussing the objectives, requirements and modalities of a PoC with each finalist. The finalists will be invited to pitch their business case and the proposed PoC in front of jury after which three winners will be announced. The winners will start a jointaround a particular business case leveraging specific telco data to develop aProof of Concept (PoC) ora joint product in the market.
