John Harthorne, founder and CEO of MassChallenge, announced yesterday evening the 128 finalists, which are accepted for the MassChallenge 2014 Accelerator Program. Among them, 4 Swiss startups have been selected: 1Drop Diagnostics, G-Therapeutics, noonee and ProtonMail.

A clear improvement: Last year only one Swiss start-up – Flatev- was among the 128 finalists of MassChallenge, the world’s largest accelerator. This year three medtech and one ICT start-up from Switzerland made it to the finals.

The selected companies:

1Drop Diagnostics has developed a mobile medical diagnostics device that could revolutionize medicine by providing laboratory quality diagnostics at the patient’s side, at the doctor’s office or at home;

G-Therapeutics is developing an implantable stimulation system and a robot-assisted training program to rehabilitate individuals with spinal cord injury;

noonee provides a wearable technology which enables factory workers to relax their muscles and sit down during work – without the need for a chair. The device is worn on the legs and allows the user freedom sit as well as walk or run.

ProtonMail is a service that provides easy to use, end-to-end encrypted email.

MassChallenge is the world’s largest accelerator and has the specificity not to take any equity or place any restrictions on entrepreneurs. With the 128 early-stage startups finalists, MassChallenge, which is based in Boston, creates a unique community, which works intensively during a 4-month program. It offers a large mentorship network and various workshops to boost the entrepreneurs in their project.

The School of Management Fribourg is one of the official sponsors of MassChallenge and is very proud to count on 4 Swiss startups for this new edition.

Finally, among the 4 finalists, 3 are part of the Venture Leaders Program, which is co-organized by swissnex Boston, the Outpost of New-York and Venturelab. Selected out of 120 contenders, the 2014 Swiss National Startup Team will have the privilege to follow an intensive 10-day program next June. During their stay, the winners will benefit from various activities like workshop sessions with experts and mentors and networking sessions with entrepreneurs and capitalists of the Boston and New-York areas.
