Switzerland is generally not regarded as one of the important worldwide ICT hubs. But when it comes to data privacy things look different. With Sirin Labs another ambitious start-up chooses Switzerland as headquarter. The company has already raised $72 million from Chinese company RenRen and other investors.

Sirin Labs was founded with the aim to create the most advanced mobile device that combined the highest privacy settings, operated faster than any other phone and was built with the best materials from around the world. After two years of intensive R&D, Sirin Labs will launch its first smart phone and flagship store in London in May 2016. The technology has been custom built to allow them to savour privacy and connectivity when travelling across the globe, whilst never being expected to compromise on the highest level of quality.

Sirin Labs is a truly global company with offices in Switzerland, Sweden, Israel and UK. The Managing Office is located in Schaffhausen. Managing Director is Oscar Kaelin. A corporate finance specialist with experience in functions as a tax advisor with KPMG and as managing director in finance at Swiss Re, since 2009, Oskar Kaelin has mainly provided financial and corporate advice to start-up companies.

Sirin Labs is not the only ambitious privacy startup that had chosen Switzerland as headquarter. Other examples are Silent Circle / Blackphone, co-founded by PGP inventor Phil Zimmermann, and Protonmail.

Sirin Labs' founders and investors are Kazakh businessman Kenges Rakishev, Israeli venture capitalist Moshe Hogeg and his Singulariteam vehicle and former McKinsey consultant Tal Cohen, with additional investment from Chinese company RenRen.

Led by Fredrik Oijer, former product director of Sony Mobile, Sirin Labs has research and development teams working from its bespoke facility in Tel Aviv, a high-tech epicentre built around internet security, anti-virus software and cyber-defence technologies, and in Sweden, a nucleus for some of the best telecoms engineers, designers and computer scientists in the world. In total the company has 85 employees based in Switzerland, Sweden, England and Israel.
