The Zurich Climate prize honours projects that make a sustainable contribution to climate protection in Switzerland and Liechtenstein. Participating start-ups have the opportunity to win a special start-up award but they can also win prizes in other categories. At the last edition four start-ups had been awarded.

This year, the Zurich Climate Prize will be awarded for the third time. The award aims at recognising projects that contribute to minimising CO2 emissions by reducing resource consumption, increasing energy efficiency or bringing about changes in behaviour. Registration closes on June 10, 2016.

The award will be assigned to companies from one of the three areas of buildings & housing, production & consumption and transport & mobility plus a special startup category. The submitted projects will be evaluated basing on their contribution to climate protection, behaviour change, potential for replication, innovative character, contribution to other aspects of sustainability and practical implementation. The most outstanding idea in each category will be rewarded any of the three listed prizes.

In 2014 start-ups played an important role for the award. 44 of the 108 submitted projects were from start-ups. And start-ups have a very good chance to win a prize: in 2014, four start-ups had been awarded.

The award involves 150’000 francs in prize money.
