New leaders for Swiss startups

A new CEO, a COO and a member on the Board of directors: those are the positions that have been occupied in the startups' management teams. SwissDrones and Polyphor each on-boarded a new CEO, Okomo welcomed a new COO and OnlineDoctor has strengthened its board.

To thrive in the New Year and in the future, four startups have announced a change of leadership, appointing new leaders that will drive them towards their desired destiny.

Top management members

Swissdrones Operating AG from Buchs in Canton Aargau specializes in the development and production of high-quality unmanned helicopters with superior payload, endurance and range for civil purpose. The startup welcomed Ulrich Amberg as its CEO. In the past months, Obrist supported SwissDrones as an external strategy consultant in reshaping the business plan and laying the foundation for the next phase of growth. He brings more than two decades of experience in corporate roles and professional services, thereof eight years as a KPMG Consulting Partner, and as a co-founder in multiple start-up ventures. He holds a B.Sc. in Computer Science, an eMBA and he is an alumnus of Harvard Business School, where he completed the Advanced Management Program (AMP). Amberg has taken over from Lukas Obrist, who served the as Interim CEO during the past two years and will now re-focus his activities to the role as Member of the Board and key R&D initiatives.

Polyphor, a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company focused on the discovery and development of innovative antibiotics and other speciality pharma products for severe or life-threatening diseases. promoted Gökhan Batur from the position of Chief Commercial Officer to CEO thereby succeeding Giacomo DiNepi, who will now retire. Batur has more than 15 years of healthcare industry experience and a strong track record in leadership, strategy and execution. Before joining Polyphor in 2019, he assumed various management roles at MSD, most recently serving as Executive Director, Global Brand Leader, Antibiotics, responsible for leading the entire Merck antibiotics portfolio managing multiple in-line, launch and pipeline products and sales of ~2 billion dollars. He received his BS in Management Information Systems from Bosphorus University, Istanbul.

Okomo, a startup that offers sales and service communication software, welcomed Amon Theiss as the new COO. In his role, Theiss will promote the company’s sustainable growth and steer the opening of the planned office in Berlin, which he will later lead. Theiss is famous for being a company builder as he helped build start-ups in Switzerland and Germany from scratch, most recently as Managing Director of Spark Horizon in Switzerland. Prior to that, he gained experience in the venture capital industry and strategy consulting. Amon studied Business Administration at the University of St. Gallen.

Board of Directors (BOD)
This week, Ole Wiesinger became a member of the board of directors of OnlineDoctor, the online dermatology platform. Wiesinger attained training as a surgeon and later changed to hospital management. He worked at Swiss Hirslanden private hospital group for over 14 years, the last 11 years as its CEO. In addition to numerous board memberships at Hirslanden, Wiesinger was also a member of the BOD and international management of the South African hospital group Mediclinic International. For several years, he was also a member of the BOD of economiesuisse, the umbrella organisation of the Swiss economy.
