The mission of the Founder Institute is to "globalize Silicon Valley". The idea-stage accelerator and startup launch program announced that it is exploring a new semester launch in Zurich. Throughout the next several weeks, the Founder Institute will host a series of free, beginner entrepreneurship events to gauge interest in a Spring 2017 Zurich program.

Based in Silicon Valley and with chapters across over 130 cities and 60 countries, the Founder Institute has helped aspiring technology entrepreneurs launch over 2,000 companies across 6 continents, which have created over 15,000 new jobs. Leading the Founder Institute’s efforts in Zurich are Johann Schlieper, long time business angel who financed and mentored more than a dozen startups in Switzerland; Jason Low, corporate innovator turned startup founder with track records of mentoring startups from ideation to running a global business; Matic Jesenovec, startup founder, innovator and mentor in multiple accelerator programs. The team is pleased to finally have a program that can enhance the Swiss startup scene the Silicon Valley way. By combining the Silicon Valley mindset and Switzerland’s strength in research and technology, the program aims to open a new platform to Swiss startups with global access.

For aspiring and idea-stage entrepreneurs up to the challenge, the Founder Institute’s comprehensive step-by-step program provides the structure, mentor support, and global network of entrepreneurs needed to start an enduring company. In addition, the Founder Institute is the only program of its kind that focuses on people versus ideas, accepts founders with day jobs, and shares equity with all participants. Founder Institute Graduate companies include fast-rising startups across 6 continents like Udemy, Realty Mogul, goplaceit, Appota, and many more.

Some of the notable graduate companies from Europe include; itembase (Berlin), which helps online retailers of all sizes increase connectivity, revenue, and retention through powerful insights; Paymium (Paris) which is the first European Bitcoin marketplace for buyers and sellers that is compliant with EU regulations on payment services; TravelerCar (Paris) is a P2P platform that allows travelers to save money on airport parking and earn money by renting their car while traveling; Peerby (Amsterdam) is a local borrowing/lending mobile application for users in proximity of each other; and 2Houses is an online platform that provides easier communication and scheduling for divorced parents with children. As of today, these startup alone have secured a total of +$15 M in funding.
