A new Editor in Chief is set to take the helm at Startupticker, the independent national news portal for start-ups and would-be entrepreneurs. Since its launch in 2011, Startupticker has been run by the state-commissioned news agency Niedermann GmbH in Lucerne. As of 1 November Stefan Kyora will take over the role of Editor in Chief.

He is replacing Claus Niedermann, who will shift his focus to the agency’s special projects such as the Startupticker magazine Swiss Venture Capital Report, as well as the Gründen and Nachfolge handbooks. “Over the last few years, Startupticker has established itself throughout Switzerland as the central news portal for the start-up scene. The change in leadership marks the end of the five-year start-up phase,” explains outgoing Editor in Chief Claus Niedermann.

The new Editor in Chief, Stefan Kyora (51), has been the managing editor of the portal since it was launched. The experienced economics journalist has written about start-up companies, innovations, SMEs, financing and related topics for over 15 years. His articles have appeared in leading Swiss economics newspapers and magazines such as Cash and BILANZ. Stefan Kyora is a partner of the news agency Niedermann GmbH. He has a PhD in philosophy from the University of Konstanz in Germany. “Over the past five years we have continually increased the number Startupticker users and it’s still growing by around 50 percent each year,” enthuses Stefan Kyora, who looks forward to his new role.

Every day Startupticker publishes five or six free articles about the very promising Swiss start-up scene. The articles are also distributed using various social media platforms. Every Friday a newsletter with a summary of the week’s most important news is sent to around 10,000 subscribers. The editorial team is also responsible for the annual Swiss Venture Capital Report, which lists and analyses investments in Swiss start-ups. The 2016 edition was launched with a print run of 15,000.

Startupticker is edited and managed by five people and was initiated by the Swiss Federal Commission for Technology and Innovation CTI. The platform is supported by the Startupticker foundation, which was founded in 2015 for the purposes of consolidation and networking. In consultation with the CTI, the foundation provides guidance and financing for projects that help to further develop the Startupticker portal.
