The Geneva-based startup OrbiWise, has successfully closed an Angel round. The startup provides infrastructure solutions for Internet of Things networks based on LoRa Alliance technology.

OrbiWise, a leading provider of infrastructure solutions for Internet of Things (IoT), recently announced the closing of its angel round. Private investors from the online business angel platform investiere.ch contributed a large 6-digit amount. Orbiwise provides a software and communication solution that allows numerous actors to enter the Internet of Things market. Over 25 billion objects will be connected to the internet by 2020 and existing communication systems are too expensive and power-hungry to support this coming wave of connected devices. To enable the true mass market potential of the Internet of Things, Orbiwise has developed a cloud-based radio communication platform for long distance and low power wireless networks for connected devices. There are countless possible applications including smart metering, object tracking and automated precision agriculture.

OrbiWise already has already won a number of European clients and was selected by Tata Communications, a leading global provider of communications services to multinational enterprises and service providers. OrbiWise supplies the software solution for Tata’s nationwide Indian Low Power Wide Area Network. Tata’s initiative will mark the largest deployment of “Low Power Wide Area”-technology to date. In the first phase, Tata will utilize this technology to power IoT applications such as smart metering, lighting, parking and various sensors. Over 24% of the world’s internet routes travel over Tata Communications’ network.

Orbiwise and the Irish startup Davra Networks also recently won contracts to work with the Connect Centre at Trinity College Dublin to roll out its internet of things (IoT) network across Ireland, as reported in The Irish Times.
