Since Switzerland is currently considered a non-associated third country in the EU Framework Programme for Research and Innovation, Swiss startups receive funding directly from the State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation. Simulatory is one of the newest recipients of a € 500,000 EIT Health Gold Track grant for its patented Synthetic patient data-based surgical simulator system.

Simulatory is a Switzerland-based Medtech company founded in 2021 by industry leaders in Surgical simulation and training whose aim is to realize the world’s first virtual endoscopic spine surgery simulator, called VRspine to train surgeons in ultra-minimally invasive endoscopic techniques for spinal surgery. It achieves this by leveraging its patented technology based on Synthetic patient data and true 3D haptics. This makes surgeons’ planning and training for complex surgeries easier.

The EIT Health Gold Track grant is financed by SERI - The State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation as part of the transitional measures for Horizon Europe since Switzerland is currently treated as a non-associated third country in the EU Framework Programme for Research and Innovation and thereby not directly eligible for Horizon Europe funding.

“Simulatory graduated from the Gold Track programme in June 2023 and was awarded within our Grant-model. They clearly demonstrated true drive and passion to help surgeons train and plan better and to reduce the learning curve for these safer and new surgical techniques. Simulatory has made significant and outstanding progress over the last 12 months, consolidating their potential to massively scale globally. We are honoured to contribute and participate in their future success via this grant,” says Dr. Christina Hertel, Head of Asset Management and Senior Program Manager at EIT Health.

“We are excited to receive this award as it validates our smart simulation platform and help us move forwards with our mission of being global leader in Synthetic patient data and creating a better standard for surgical training through our simulators.,” says Gayathri Venkat, CEO and co-founder of Simulatory.
