The startups, Neustark and Bontrebo offer solutions for CO2 storage and communications. The two joined the Microsoft for startups program, allowing them to benefit from expert know-how, technology and access to local data centers to scale their business.

Neustark, an ETH spinoff founded by Johannes Tiefenthaler and Valentin Gutknecht is the first company to remove CO2 from the environment by permanently storing it in concrete. In 2020, Neustark commissioned its first mobile pilot plant, which has undergone testing by numerous building material recyclers in Switzerland and Europe. The startup also relies on customers to purchase CO2 certificates. In its global sustainability report, Microsoft announced that it would buy such certificates from neustark. Furthermore, the collaboration between neustark and Microsoft continues as the startup joins the Microsoft for Startups program through which it obtains free access to the Azure Cloud and uses Microsoft 365 as a collaboration solution. The startup is currently implementing Dynamics 365 Business Central to cover its immediate and future resource planning needs.

Bontrebo – a communication platform for social workers and their clients
Based in Baden, Bontrebo enables secure and efficient digital interaction between social workers and clients. One of its clients is Social Services Baden, which uses the platform to facilitate communication with clients seeking social assistance, with an additional expansion to asylum support to be completed later this year. As part of the Microsoft for Startups program, Bontrebo counts on the exchange with Microsoft experts and the local availability of the Microsoft Azure Cloud to operate their service for Baden Regional Social Services via Microsoft’s Swiss data centers.

About the program
