For start-ups, partnerships with established companies and experienced insiders are crucial. So it is encouraging that despite the summer break, we reported on the conclusion of several such partnerships.

Dear reader

ZuriMED develops products for soft tissue repair in orthopaedics, with sports medicine the first field of application. The ETH Zurich spin-off has now completed a financing round of CHF 14.5 million, which will facilitate regulatory registration of the first product based on the technology and which targets repair of the shoulder rotator cuff. The lead investor in the financing round was Chindex Medical, a leading provider of medical equipment based in China, and leading surgeons from the US and Europe also invested.

Collaboration with established companies and experienced industry insiders is essential if start-ups are to build trust, move faster and increase reach. It is thus good news that such partnerships are part of everyday life in Switzerland today.

Blockchain start-up Pier is working with daura, a joint venture from Berner Kantonalbank, Swiss stock exchange SIX and Sygnum Bank. Pier has developed a smart wallet that can be used without blockchain experience or technical know-how. Users of the daura platform to store tokenised shares can now also take advantage of the smart wallet.

Another blockchain start-up, Relai, has secured the services of an experienced banker. Relai’s new chief financial officer is the former CFO of the Rothschild Group. It should help to drive the company’s European expansion.

Wepot has gained an important partner in Switzerland. Thanks to the cooperation with Hornbach Suisse, its simple but effective plant watering system is now available in specialist stores throughout Switzerland.

Cooperation is also a priority in Aargau. Collaboration with Kantonsspital Baden should enable start-ups to carry out tests in a clinical environment and thus implement innovations more quickly.

The 20 winners of this year’s edition of Boldbrain Accelerator in canton Ticino have been announced. Speaking of accelerator programmes, start-ups in the areas of digital trust and cybersecurity can apply for the next edition of Tech4Trust until 27 August. The application period for the Cyber Startup Challenge at the Department of Defence, Civil Protection and Sport’s Cyber Defence Campus runs until 31 August.

Have a good weekend.
