Under its new programme "UZH BioEntrepreneur-Fellowships" the University of Zurich provides additional support for people planning to create a spin-off company in the Life Sciences and related fields. The fellowship amounts to CHF 150'000 for a period of 18 months. It further includes support and advice for fellows on various topics.

UZH BioEntrepreneur Fellows will be given the opportunity to further develop their technology, product or novel service and to evaluate the potential for the commercialization of such a technology, product or service before founding the company.

An UZH BioEntrepreneur-Fellowship amounts to CHF 150’000 and is given for a period of 18 months. Fellows are free to decide on how to spend the money (e.g. for the own salary, the employment of co-workers or for consumables).

As part of the fellowship and besides their work on the project, fellows take part in a BioEntrepreneurship & Innovation Program that conveys the fundamentals of business start-up and management.

Eligible candidates for an UZH BioEntrepreneur-Fellowship

  • must either complete their doctoral degree (PhD) in life sciences or related fields at UZH within six months after the application deadline or are currently working as postdoctoral researcher at UZH;
  • must submit their project as a single applicant;
  • have to be supported by an UZH professor (host professor) who is ready to act as a mentor during the fellowship and will provide the necessary lab space and infrastructure to carry out the project.

Submission deadline for the 1st Call 2017 is 13 March 2017. A next call is planned for autumn 2017.
