FAQ

General

What is the goal of Startupticker?

Startupticker is an independent business news platform for the Swiss start-up ecosystem with the goal of providing founders, supporters and the general public with daily news from the start-up scene. We want to strengthen the Swiss start-up scene by making exciting Swiss companies known and creating transparency. We also provide comprehensive information on funding organizations. The reporting is based on high-quality journalistic criteria and values. The editorial team is independent.

What roles do website, weekly newsletter and social media play?

The website offers the four to six most important daily news items from the Swiss start-up scene. Our Friday newsletter rounds up the action of the week and includes upcoming events and training programs. Subscribe now to stay updated. On social media, we are particularly active on Twitter and LinkedIn.

How does Startupticker make money?

Startupticker is a non-profit organization supported by Innosuisse and about 40 additional supporters to provide news and information for the start-up ecosystem. If you want to join us as a partner, contributor or supporter, contact us by email.

News

What type of news does Startupticker report?

We report on news from ambitious and innovative Swiss start-ups and support organizations. Each article on Startupticker has a hook; for start-ups, this is usually the achievement of an important business milestone, such as gaining a major customer, a financing round, winning an award, completion of a major partnership or launch of an innovative project (business). We report on start-ups from all industries with the potential and ambition to become internationally successful and transform into SMEs with more than 20 employees in the foreseeable future.

My start-up has just taken a giant step forward. How do I get the news to Startupticker?

You may contact the editorial staff by telephone, email or LinkedIn. For reasons of efficiency, it is best if you provide us with written input (in English, German or French). We need a description of the news and why it is important to your business, and, in addition, a paragraph on what your start-up does. If we have additional questions or if something is unclear, we will reach out to us. If you are unsure about anything, you can call us or send a draft; we will then contact you.

What type of news doesn’t Startupticker report?

As we focus exclusively on news, we do not publish tips or how-to lists. We do not include portraits of start-ups and interviews with start-up founders. We also do not publish articles on industry insights. We do not report on product improvements, trade fairs or the redesign of a company website.

We also do not include advertising in our articles. Neither do we make product recommendations nor encourage our readers to buy certain products or involve themselves in certain companies. We do not publish articles about the launch of financing rounds or crowdfunding campaigns.

We do not publish articles on hobby projects or me-too businesses – unless they are incredibly successful. We only report about companies that are already incorporated. At least one of the funders must work 100% for the start-up.

We do not report on subsidiaries and joint ventures of corporations and older SMEs. Given our sole focus on Switzerland, we do not cover foreign companies.

Does Startupticker charge any fees to feature the start-ups?

No. Our services are entirely free of charge for start-ups and support organisations.

Sponsored Post

I see articles marked as ‘sponsored post’, how do they differ from other articles?

Sponsored Posts are not part of the editorial content. They are provided by the company or organization that paid for it. If you want to publish a sponsored post on our platform, contact us for more information.

Events Calendar

Do you publish all events and training sessions on the website?

Our calendar contains events that explicitly target start-ups or smaller technology companies. We do not publish information on events without having any apparent connection to start-ups. Foreign events and programs are only included if Swiss start-ups are being supported when they take part.

What is the difference between an ‘event’ and ‘training’?

Events have many participants, several program points and networking opportunities. The training section includes programs with narrowly defined content, such as seminars, courses, workshops, webinars and further education opportunities.

If I am an event organizer, how do I add events to your calendar?

You can do this directly via the ‘Submit event’. After you have filled in all the required information, we will review it internally and then publish it. Please note that your submission will not appear on Startupticker immediately.

Directories

What are directories?

We have compiled different active and important offers for start-up founders and created directors for each – investors, awards, grants and loans. Under the Assets section, you will also find job ads from start-ups, facts and initiatives concerning start-ups in Switzerland.

How can I add my offer to the directories?

Contact the Startupticker team with a description of the program. For awards, indicate key dates and why start-ups should participate. We do not add one-time initiatives: the program must have a long-term goal.
