Retail Giants Gilt, Tomax and Walmart select Typesafe

The retail industry is experiencing a renaissance in application infrastructure as developers support new e-commerce, point of sales and in-store business initiatives. Play and Akka, respectively, are a web application framework and run-time that are optimized for the extreme traffic requirements of popular retail applications that must handle many concurrent users and unpredictable traffic surges.

At Gilt Groupe, the Typesafe Reactive Platform was key to the company's migration from Ruby to Scala, its strategy for distributing peak computational requirements across multicore, and message brokering in its real-time member interaction product, Gilt Live. 

At Tomax, the Typesafe platform was central to the application infrastructure for Retail.net a solution suite spanning retail activities and servicing more than 100 retail chains with more than 25,000 storefronts and millions of customers and store associates each month.

At Walmart Canada, Typesafe enabled a full modernization to an event-driven architecture designed to handle more concurrent processes and users, and a deployment that had zero downtime for the giant's e-commerce store. As a result, Walmart Canada saw a 36% reduction in visitor page load times during a Black Friday that had a corresponding 98% increase in mobile orders and 20% boost in overall web traffic.
