Four Geneva-based technology projects have won funding from the Fongit Innovation Fund (FIF) for their innovations. A seed loan of CHF 100,000 has been granted to Carrat Sàrl, whose bracelets send an emergency call at the touch of a button. Three grants of CHF 50,000 have been awarded to each of the following: HUG-UNIGE project iSleep for their innovation in monitoring brain activity during anesthesia and sleep, HEPIA biomedical engineering project LaxiPed for improving patient care in foot and ankle orthopedics, and HUG-HEPIA spinoff Pneumoscope for democratizing respiratory diagnosis.

The Fongit Innovation Fund (FIF) fosters innovation and the scale-up of promising companies from the Canton of Geneva that are working towards the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The FIF is supported by the State of Geneva, the Fondation Genevoise pour l’Innovation Technologique (FONGIT), the Geneva Chamber of Commerce (CCIG), the United Nations International Trade Center (ITC) and the United Nations Environment Agency.

The FIF supports innovative technological startups, scale-ups, and small and medium enterprises (SMEs) at different stages of their journey with three types of financing options: the FIF Grant (up to CHF 50,000), the FIF Seed Loan (up to CHF 100,000) and the FIF Growth Loan (up to CHF 400,000).

Seed loan of CHF 100,000 awarded to Carrat Sàrl
Geneva-based startup Carrat Sàrl has been granted a convertible FIF seed loan of CHF 100,000 for their innovative bracelets designed to give the user peace of mind. Technology hidden within the design allows wearers to immediately call an emergency contact and share their location by a simple tap.

Grant of CHF 50,000 awarded to iSleep
A spinoff of the Geneva University Hospital (HUG) and the University of Geneva (UNIGE), iSleep is developing an innovative device for monitoring brain activity during anesthesia and sleep.

Grant of CHF 50,000 awarded to LaxiPed
This innovative biomedical engineering project from the Haute école du paysage, d'ingénierie et d'architecture de Genève (HEPIA) improves patient diagnosis in orthopedics. LaxiPed is a prototype that measures relative dorsal mobility of the first ray, helping diagnose and determine treatment for numerous foot pathologies. The project has also received significant grants from Innosuisse.

Grant of CHF 50,000 awarded to Pneumoscope
Developed by researchers from the HUG in collaboration with HEPIA, Pneumoscope is a low-cost smart stethoscope. This non-invasive device enables non-medical professionals to accurately diagnose respiratory diseases thanks to artificial intelligence. Clinical studies are currently underway in 10 countries over three continents.

Next application deadlines to the FIF
The FIF meets several times a year to evaluate and award startups with funding. The next deadline to apply for the FIF is January 10th, 2024. Companies may learn more and apply on Fongit Innovation Fund (FIF) page.
