Renens based SwissDeCode is getting ready to market its automated testing platform for the food industry. The scale-up helping food companies secure their supply chain just received the Innosuisse Certificate, an important milestone for its development.

Based at the Ateliers de la Ville de Renens, SwissDeCode offers a variety of rapid, on-site testing solutions that help companies in different parts of the food supply chain to detect food contamination and adulteration earlier, avoid food recalls and improve the trust of consumers in their products.

The Vaud scale-up has succeeded in launching several off-the-shelf products (e.g. Pork detection, A2 milk validation), as well as partnering with some of the world’s largest food companies in projects that are contributing to improving the food ecosystem, not just at the manufacturing level, but also in farm and retail environments. Today the company is working hard to launch, later this year, its automated testing BEAMitup platform for the food industry.

Following the initial and core coaching programme, getting the Innosuisse Certificate was the natural next step, as explained SwissDeCode cofounders Brij Sahi and Gianpaolo Rando. The company is thankful that Innosuisse has been able to support it through its journey. Commercially, SwissDeCode takes pride in presenting its technology as a Swiss innovation to its customers and contacts worldwide. Therefore, the Innosuisse Certificate helps strengthen the company’s positioning. Importantly, it also shows to its partners, investors and stakeholders that the company is growing sustainably and that the Swiss Innovation Agency acknowledges its efforts.

Through the Innosuisse start-up coaching, SwissDeCode has been able to work on important aspects vital to start-up companies, such as market research and positioning, internationalization strategy, risk management and legal framework. Getting help in such important areas gave the 28 person team confidence that it is following the right direction and building a solid foundation for growth.

Focused on growth
Throughout 2021, SwissDeCode will conduct validation with industry partners to make sure its novel platform is ready for the challenges faced by food companies. Companies that carry out testing at a large scale can already apply to have early access to the platform. The scale-up expects to launch the solution to the broader market in Q4 2021.

SwissDeCode is in the market with the DNAFoil testing kit and is increasing its customer base with off-the-shelf and customized solutions. At the same time, the company is actively looking for partners in the food industry who would collaborate with the team to validate its BEAMitup platform in a real industry setting. Last but not least, SwissDeCode is looking for investors for its next financing round due beginning 2022.
