September brings awards for these six Swiss startups

Six startups from across Switzerland received recognition and awards in the last weeks, emphasizing the advanced competitiveness of startups worldwide. These companies are making strides across various industries, including cleantech, biotech, software development and urban energy planning.

Urbio developed a SaaS platform that accelerates 10x the decarbonization of buildings with generative AI, enabling real estate professionals and utilities to prioritize and design projects for individual buildings, entire portfolios, or large cities. The 2020-founded EPFL spinoff received two awards from two competitions. They were among the winners of the Prix Industrie 4.0 “The Shapers” 2023, presented by the Latin Chambers of Commerce and Industry and the Think Tank Manufacture Thinking. The award highlights the companies and French-speaking personalities that contribute to the prosperity of the Swiss industry. Additionally, Urbio secured the “Prix du coup de coeur du public prize of CHF 3,000 at the inaugural Smart Energy Startup Pitch Contest, held during the 13th edition of Smart Energy 2023, organized by The Ark Foundation and CleantechAlps.

REMA - Pitch’n’bar event by IFJ
Operating in stealth mode, REMA is dedicated to advancing green hydrogen production. Its membrane-less electrolysis technology earned them recognition at the Pitch’n’bar event in Chaux-de-Fonds, organized by IFJ. The startup secured prizes from the program’s partners like Fondation Watch Academy, Microcity - Neuchâtel Innovation, and more.

Cultivated Biosciences - Inaugural class of Mondelēz International’s CoLab Tech Program
Cultivated Biosciences has earned a spot in the inaugural class of Mondelēz International’s CoLab Tech Accelerator Program. The startup uses fermentation technology to create a sustainable dairy-free, creamy fat ingredient that can substitute for animal-based ingredients in multiple functions and formulas. Its approach aligns with the program’s focus on accelerating companies addressing technology-driven food production and sustainability challenges identified by Mondelez International. During the 12-week program, startups will gain access to a valuable network and receive mentoring and a travel stipend to meet CoLab Tech at a final showcase event.

Ovomind & Iprova - CogX Awards in London
Ovomind and Iprova, both based in Geneva, have won prizes at the 7th annual CogX Awards in London. Ovomind received the “Best AI Product for Entertainment” award, highlighting its commitment to advancing the gaming industry by integrating emotions into gameplay. Meanwhile, Iprova was recognized with the “Best AI Product - Transportation and Logistics” award, acknowledging its role in transforming how inventions are created across various industries through data-driven approaches.

Jua - TotalEnergies On Accelerator program
Jua.ai is one of the ten startups enrolled in the TotalEnergies accelerator program. Organised by TotalEnergies, a major player in the electricity and renewable energy sector, the six program allows companies to advance and test their solutions and get access to TotalEnergies’ network. Jua uses tens of millions of data points to provide precise forecasts. The Freienbach-based startup developed the first end-to-end deep learning model, “Large Physics Model”, that is capable of predicting the weather accurately, precisely, and quickly. Further advantages included the speed of predicting weather changes, which surpasses traditional models, giving traders an unrivalled competitive advantage. Startups, governments and large companies alike can now develop global, high-frequency and high-accuracy weather models within days.
