Much is happening in the start-up scene: learn more about the three most important launches, three awards, three financing rounds, the activities of three large companies, and the balance sheet of a business angel club.

Dear reader

We report repeatedly on launches on startupticker and this week our reports included Tchat, the app for chatting on the train, bookid, a new booking tool for childcare, and Date a Rentner, a booking platform for the over-55s. The new services have a good chance of success, as they come from practical experience or have already proven themselves in tests. Tchat is widely  used in Ticino; bookid originated from the needs of a Swiss daycare centre; and Date a Rentner  comes from the creators of the platform Rent a Rentner, which has been around for several years.

Awards: This week, the 20 venture leaders for 2016 were announced: in June, the 10 life sciences start-ups will travel to Boston and the 10 ICT companies will go to New York. On 21 April, the winners of a Startup Champions event will present at EPFL, with EPFL Almuni Seed Night following, at which more start-ups will present. We will be at both events.

The Zuger Jungunternehmerpreis was also awarded this week and went to 3D visualisation firm allvisual AG. In addition, Red Herring announced the finalists for the European Top 100 - among them are 16 interesting Swiss start-ups.

Financing rounds: Three start-ups  secured new money from the life sciences environment. Anergis generated CHF 5 million, Finox received more than CHF 2 million from BV Holding, and Karmagenes carried out a seed round with business angels, which has earned the start-up CHF260,000.

Speaking of business angels, Business Angels Switzerland has been active for 10 years in French-speaking Switzerland and has now presented a pleasing balance of the first nine years.

Large companies: Swisscom will open an innovation house in late summer in Biel, which will bring together the self-employed, students, creative thinkers and art enthusiasts with Swisscom project teams and external partners, such as Huawei. In Basel, a platform for collaborative innovation has been established with the support of development fund Engagement Migros with CHF 500,000. And eHealth start-up Pryv has been accepted into the Konica Minolta Leading Edge Partners community.

Next week you can meet me at the Swiss Biotech Day.

Have a peaceful weekend.
