Today represents another important milestone for Typesafe, as the company announces its $14M Series B financing round, led by Shasta Ventures with participation from Juniper Networks and existing investors including Greylock Partners and Francois Stieger. Along with this announcement, Typesafe is pleased to welcome Jason Pressman from Shasta Ventures to the Typesafe board of directors.

Typesafe provides the most scalable software platform designed for the computing architectures of the future—multicore, parallel and cloud applications. The company was already backed by Greylock Partners. The Series B financing round was led by Shasta Ventures with participation from Juniper Networks and existing investors.

The money will be spent for additional investments in the Typesafe Stack -- including Scala, Akka, Play, and Slick -- as well as supporting infrastructure such as the Scala IDE for Eclipse, sbt, and zinc.

In addition the team will continue to enhance the commercial maintenance, support, and management capabilities in the Typesafe Subscription (including the Typesafe Console), and Typesafe's training and services capabilities.

And perhaps most importantly, the team will ramp up the efforts to bring Typesafe technologies to a broader audience, so that they can enjoy the benefits experienced by early adopters like Juniper Networks, who commented:
"The Typesafe Stack enables us to leverage the most recent advances in large-scale parallel processing and distributed computing while building on existing investments in Java."

Typesafe was co-founded by Martin Odersky, the creator of Scala and Professor at EPF Lausanne in 2010. The company chnaged its name from Scala Solutions to Typesafe in 2011. Today Typesafe has offices in Lausanne, the U.S. and Sweden. Typesafe was among the Swiss Top 100 Start-ups 2011.
