Geneva based Baobabooks Education is launching a new version of its platform, purpose built to support children, teens and young adults to write, illustrate and publish their own books. The startup is the 1st new member admitted to the Swiss EdTech Collider in 2021.

Baobabooks Education is launching an enhanced creativity platform for classroom-based and distance learning. The Swiss Edtech is seeking to make a difference by partnering with educators and parents through its platform and by helping to ensure that inclusive and equitable quality education is accessible for all. Peter Nicholson, Founder of Baobabooks Education Sàrl explains why this platform is particularly important: “While lots of attention and resources have been focused on digital engagement of STEM courses, relatively little has been done to support creativity”.

Despite significant progress made since the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals were first announced, according to the United Nations over 200 million children will still be out of school in 2030. While distance learning and home schooling are a growing trend in education, access to quality education remains an issue. Inequalities in education have been further exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic as school closures have kept 90% of students out of school. Baobabooks hopes its platform can be used to help young people and adults across the world achieve relevant and recognized proficiency levels in functional at successful completion of basic education by 2030.

Baobabooks Education Sàrl is a Geneva-registered social impact company dedicated to supporting and fostering creativity. Initially envisioned several years ago by the founder while on vacation, version 1.0 was launched in January 2020 and the startup was registered in December of the same year. With team members located today in the UK, France, Switzerland, Sweden and the Philippines, Founder Peter Nicholson anticipates building presence in Geneva as the company grows.

In a year, the Swiss Edtech attracted a talented and diverse team and worked to revise and enhance its platform and launched version 2.0 this month. Kids and families can use the platform for free while schools and distance educators pay an annual fee based on the number of students using the platform. Baobabooks is able to offer its platform for free to under-resourced schools. Focused on bringing on board new students and schools in the months to come, the company is also pursuing a number of social impact initiatives.
