Multiwave Technologies and the Clinique de la Main - Geneva have entered into a strategic partnership for the development of a portable MRI device dedicated to upper limb imaging. As part of this, Clinique de la Main has acquired a minority stake in Multiwave, and become a strategic partner to assist in the R&D of this new device. The medtech has raised over CHF 20 million to date and has started selling its portable MRI device for brain imaging research on key markets.

The partnership with Clinique De La Main - Genève started on January 18th, 2024. The date coincided with the first closing of a financing round led by Clinique De La Main says co-founder and co-CEO Panos Antonakakis to Startupticker.ch. To date, Multiwave has raised more than CHF 20m in dilutive and non-dilutive capital and is already selling its portable MRI device for brain imaging research to hospitals and research centers in the US, UK and France.

The objective of the partnership is to make a brand-new portable MRI design exclusively for hand and wrist imaging in addition to Multiwave's existing portable MRI device for brain imaging.

Multiwave will cover all research-related aspects of the partnership, including a dedicated research associate that will work on the project. The Geneva based hand surgery and therapy centre will provide advice to the Multiwave team to optimize the design for clinical hand and wrist imaging (usability, ergonomics, indications clinical diagnosis) and will offer its support for clinical studies required for regulatory approval. Multiwave and Clinique De La Main - Genève wish to commercially exploit the novel device for clinical use post-FDA and CE marking, says the Co-CEO.

In 2024, Multiwave expects to top up its Series A round, deliver on existing partnerships in the US, UK and France on brain imaging and develop a first prototype with its Swiss partner on hand & wrist imaging following its quality management system standards.
